During our most recent Viva event, we had a dynamic discussion among thought leaders across industries on the topic of Empowerment: A Leadership Principle. The discussion explored what women can do to support and empower each other, and personal and career experiences were shared. We would like to summarize for you some main points and takeaways from the conversation.
Being courageous starts from within. Consider what is holding you back from trying something new or gaining a new experience, and rewrite your narrative. When the words “I can’t do this” or “I don’t have enough experience” or “I am afraid” come up, consider instead the possibility of “what if I tried and was successful?” or “what if I tried and did not succeed but learned and grew from the experience?”.
Another important piece of advice was for professional growth: try and identify sponsors within your organization who can advocate for you. You can gain exposure by stepping forward to participate in new projects. This is also a good way to get out of your comfort zone, gain new skills, and build your network.
Think about your personal brand. What do you want to be known as or for when you work with others? When we are clear about our own values and attributes that we want to bring to work and life, this can create an amazing ripple effect. For example, if a person is helpful to friends and colleagues, others respond in kind.
Remember the importance of paying it forward.
What action will you take today that could positively impact or support the women around you?
Thank you to our speakers, attendees, Hotel Jen, and Viva team for this empowering event. We look forward to seeing you at our next one!
