Viva will hold on June 20th their Annual General Meeting which is open to members and non-members.

The AGM meeting will be a review of key initiatives for Viva as well as the introduction of the newly expanded board.

Following the AGM meeting, Songqiao Yao will present her keynote talked entitled “Are We Ready to Lead with Purpose?

How is your work brining meaning to your life and the earth? How can we collectively lead with purpose for our future generations to thrive? Sonqiao has led different teams of people, female scientists, children and families, business leaders of expeditions to the earth’s most beautiful yet fragile ecosystems, such as Greenland, Antarctica and the Himalayas. Her decade of experience around the world in the environmental sector has lead her to start and innovative social enterprise, WildBound. As an educator, entrepreneur and advocate for women’s leadership, she will share stories from her journeys and discuss what it means to lead with purpose.


Songqiao Yao is the founder of WildBound, an innovative education and sustainability venture based in China. WildBound empowers sustainability leadership through expeditions, advocacy, as well as public communications to create a future where human live in harmony with nature. Songqiao was the first Chinese participant and faculty member of Homeward Bound, the largest ever all female expedition to Antarctica to raise awareness of women’s leadership in science. She has been to Antarctica 16 times.


Prior to founding Wildbound, Songqiao has actively campaigned on environmental justice and climate change as a researcher and youth delegate at UN climate change conference in 2010. In 2012, she helped build the environmental NGO International Rivers’ China office and strengthened its program on river protection in China through field research and policy publications. Her ethnographic research along the Nu/Salween River has won a National Geographic Global Explorer grant. Songqiao has also consulted for a number of agriculture initiatives in Africa.


Songqiao received her MPhil in Geography from Cambridge under a Gates Scholarship, and her MBA from Oxford under a Skoll Scholarship. She graduated summa cum laude from Mount Holyoke College, the first women’s higher education institution in the U.S.
